Using the Student Organiser Pack your child or pupil can be more organised, make more effective use of time and achieve his/her aims more successfully.
The Student Organiser Pack has also been found to reduce the arguments and tension which sometimes surround homework.
Many students can do well during term-time, but do not do themselves justice when they sit exams. There is a new section in the Student Organiser Pack which helps these students to study
The timestables and revision organiser pages can be filled-in in a variety of ways and many students stick them on their wall, locker, desk or inside their files.
All plans can be adapted to suit one's own requirements
The structured layout makes it easy for parents and teachers to monitor a child's progress and to guide him towards a stage where he can manage his studies independently.
The Student Organiser Pack contains questionnaires which enables a pupil to find his strungths and weaknesses. In thinking about the answers the student is made aware of his own difficulties.
Daily work plans ensure that work is split into suitable periods of time with organised learning breaks, and thus promote concentration and increased efficiency.
Weekly plans give the student a framework which they can use to learn how to mix project work or course work with daily homework.
The weekly schedules enable the student to consider each week his study commitments and social activities and to plan his time accordingly.
A year plan allows long-term planning and continuity with the following term. Its single page layout highlights important dates and encourages the student to be prepared for examinations.
Some examples illustrating one method of filling-in plans is included. Colour should be used to differentiate between subjects.

There are many ways to use the Student Organiser Pack. The Student Organiser Pack sheets have proved useful for children, GCSE and A-Level students and adults. Even within an age group there are different ways of using each sheet. This is deliberate to match the learning styles, preferences and needs of each learner. The teacher uses his or her skills, experience and knowledge of the children/students to guide each one to use the sheets in the most useful and prductive way.
The questions at the start of the pack help the student and teacher to set goals for organisations and time management. For some students this will be an important issue. Others may not need to adjust their present strategies, becuase they have worked out a method that allows them to achieve their goals and have a well balanced use of time.
Students should answer the questions "sometimes", "always" or "never". With the younger children it may be necessary to do this orally. Students may need help interpreting some of the questions. This allows discussion about different ways of doing the same homework some of which may be more effective. Teachers will notice that the questions include a few questions that cannot be answered "sometimes", "always" or "never". This checks that the student is reading the question properly and is not just answering each one with "sometimes".
After students have answered the questions ask them to highlight or underline 5 that they wish they could answer differently. If this time next year they were able to answer differently it would indicate that they should be doing better at scholl or college. For example, "I don't hand in my work", if they answered this as only "sometimes" instead of "always" then this would be an improvement.
Some students get confused wit the negatives. These are deliberate to ensure processing of the question and to prevent the problem of the children thinking all "yes" or "always" are the correct answers and all "nos" or "never" are incorrect. The teacher needs to be aware of this and check the children's understanding of the questions.
Over the years I have noticed patterns. Some children answer nearly all the questions "sometimes" - these are a different group from those who put many "always" or "never" answers. Often wit the "sometimes" group lack of motivation and not having the goals with regard to school work are the problems. With the "always" ro "never" group a study skills course often helps them because they do not have the strategies to help themselves, rather than having the strategies but not using them consistently.
The children are oftern asked how to solve and change the answers to the questions they have highlighted. If thy are unable to do this then introduce the sheets of the Student Organiser Pack as strategies for helping towards these goals.
There is a wide variety of plans to suit different students. Each page can be used at a basic or much more complex level as students and adults become more skilled at using each tool to achieve their goals.
